December 26: Billy Gibson is wonderful!... as a musician and a human being. He not only blows blues harp like he was born to share it with us, he sings the blues in the same incredible fashion. I know few folks who are so well studied in the delta southern blues style. It is an obvious passion for him.
| "I call Beale the University of the Blues. For a young musician, all you have to do is look and listen, and you can learn so much." | | Billy Gibson |
Let some old blues player walk in the door while Billy is on stage and he about stops the show til he can acknowledge them and make them feel honored and welcomed. I always know to watch the break clock when one of Billy's heros are in the building. We have to literally drag him away and back up on stage. No doubt he wants to know all about what's up with them and ask a few blues history or technique related questions. Billy may be all about the blues, but one thing I've noted while being immersed in his personal CDs is that he blows some hot jazzharp, too! ;)
Billy & Kevin Sheahan (Kevin wrote and played bass on the featured CD selection Shortnin') are also in one of the best bluesbands to ever hit Beale Street... junkyardmen ;)
December 21: I think everything is working now, please let me know if you find otherwise. The bio is about yours truly and it's not finished. There are new photos for the gallery, but I did good just getting those that were on the old pages uploaded, as I'm rushing to get ready for work now. You know the drill... so I'll be expecting you back real soon! ;)
December 20: Hello! This site is being moved from it's former location and it may take me a few days to get everything set up here. BluesVue! is a new name for my formerly called BluesSite. I'll update as I get the various links working. The message boards and guestbook should be accessible, so please leave a post or gb entry to let me know you've found BluesVue! Thank you very much & be sure and bookmark before you surf off!
December 16: Still some major technical problems with this site server, so this is just gonna be another a short update. BB King will be performing in Handy Park as a part of the New Year's Eve festivities ON Beale Street!!! We have Rufus Thomas with The Boogie Blues Band in Rum Boogie & junkyardmen in Blues Hall on New Year's Eve. Also note that junkyardmen will be in Rum Boogie Dec. 19th - 23rd, as The Boogie Blues Band gets a week off for Christmas. Kirk Smithhart Band is performing Christmas night Saturday Dec 25th, as well as the 26th & 27th. Does everyone know that there's *No Cover Charge!* on Sunday & Monday nights in Rum Boogie... A great time of year for you local folks to come down and SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC! :)
December 9: Sure hope your holidays are special! Just a quick update to let y'all know that my site server has been having alot of problems and ftp has been down for days. I'll be more inclined to further update the site when it's fixed, so check back again soon!
November 29: This will be short, but hopefully sweet, today :) I wanted to get Paul's CD featured as well as posting the December entertainment schedule. Since I am about to get broadband internet connection my email is changing and I have many areas to change and notify.
Paul Wood has produced himself a great CD! The self penned title cut is my pick to share with y'all... Bridgeburner is HOT!!! Paul delivers electrifying blues guitar work and his soulful vocal has the strong backup accompaniment of none other than Reba Russell! Reba, the Premier Player Award recipiant for Best Female Vocalist by the Memphis Chapter of NARAS in 1990 & 1998, is also featured on the 4th cut of the CD "Dixie Chicken/Dimples". Memphis' own Jack Holder of Sounds Unreel Studio did an excellent bit of engineering on this album. No doubt Jack knows what a guitar sound is all about ;)
November 24: Have a great Thanksgiving! I'll be featuring the new Paul Wood CD when I get back from my sister's next weekend. So do check back soon! If you'd like to post a review on Kirk Smithhart Band, surf on by Digital City Memphis KSB is #1 on the Your Top Clicks list! :) Also, I see that John Kilzer has several upcoming gigs at Mallards. Can't wait to see him there myself! I'm off to fix all the Forum links, before heading out of town... drive safely and eat lotsa turkey!
November 6: I added a few links yesterday and ran out of time to mention them here. Brian J & The Accelerators are arriving on Beale Street via The New Daisy, Friday Nov. 12th!
Guy Venable, a well known and loved local bluesman, now has a very cool (just like him ;) website. Surf on by there, you won't be disappointed! And while there, be sure to checkout the Art By Rilla page! Rilla Venable is one of the classiest ladies that truly graces Beale when she visits. She's also Guy's very talented wife. I am so glad Guy is showing her incredible artwork on his site! Guy is also featuring some very interesting artwork called Digital Mojo.
I want to thank Pete Mendillo, for helping me with Photoshop 5.5 and the Bryce 3D!!! Here's a photo that I added one of the cool FX to (also my first successful usage of the Photoshop 5.5 software)...

It's also on The Past Updates Page in lieu of the Kirk Smithhart Band CD cover that I have yet to get scanned. I must take my camera Nov 14th and get some long overdue shots of Pete!
November 2: I know, I am late getting the Entertainment Schedules changed for November! What can I say... I've got the blues. Fortune City's latest deal is their banner is now placed by a bannerbot at the top of every page. Been tough making peace with this one! Major reason I chose FC is that the banner, tho HUGE & UGLY (but at least it is blue ;), was movable within the pages. They have been working on a new less obtrusive banner and they aleviated some of the deadspace above it. Also, it's November and Blues Hall is now closed for the winter season! As some of you know, Blues Hall is 'my room' to work on weekends. Which means less gigs, less fun, less music, less money = the blues. Kirk Smithhart Band has done so well, even bringing in those rare on Beale Street local Memphians, ever since WEGR Rock 103 Memphis - Wake-Up Crew found one of the Kirk Smithhart Band's CDs stuck in a ceiling tile while on the air, and started playing it regularly. Due to massive listener's response & requests. Anyhow... I bet Kirk could keep Blues Hall viable thru the winter. If only they would give it a try! I'm off to update the schedule pages...
October 15: Hey! The Blues Gallery has a whole new look :o And lots more new photos on all 3 pages. Please let me know if you have any problems with it.
Thanks go to JavaScripts.Com for providing the Thumbnail Viewer script!
I can't say enough great stuff about Anthony Gomes Band :)
"If you only have enough money for one CD, this is it! Anthony Gomes and his outstanding band will fill your auditory nerve with the entire Blues spectrum." -Paul Parellos Blues Paper
After waking up to this CD this morning, I agree wholeheartly! A bonafide blues experience that my mere words cannot even convey. Anthony Gomes Band hit the Blues Hall stage and sounded like perfection... I only reinforce what bands give me, and they gave me awesome tonal quality and balance. Anthony told me they were all tone freaks and this CD is tone personified! If you get the opportunity to see this wonderful blues band live, it's definitely a show you do not want to miss. Anthony is a real entertainer, not to mention, a gifted musician and vocalist. A great song writer?... Why not be your own judge and do yourself a favor, take the time to listen to these guys right now! Just be forewarned, you are truly about to experience the 'Blues In Technicolor'. Think I'm exaggerating? hehe... I dare ya! And no excuses, either. Between me and them a sound format is available for all, unless you are a soundless surfer!
Or... a midi only bluesfreak :o Just one more thing... I haven't forgotten about getting all their names, I do have them... someplace. Be back as soon as I remember where the heck I put 'em...
October 11: The Sonny Poole fundraising event is this next Friday Oct.15th at Legends. Sonny, a past Beale Street Blues Society board member, was in a terrible car wreck in Miami and is facing up to a year of rehab which will cost way more than his insurance will cover. Artimus Pyle, Miranda Louise, Preston Shannon, John Kilzer, and Jim Dandy will be performing. Sounds like it could prove to be the place to be, as they intend to have folks sit in and jam 'til 4:00am! I know I'll be there ;)
October 7: Let's all welcome Memphis Music Connection to the internet! They are just getting started and are dedicated to delivering Memphis Music around the world. Pretty wonderful, eh?! Please do show them some support and see what they have, first.
Got the featured CD wav file edited and uploaded this morning, so do check it out. I do plan on getting some really nice music and sound file software, eventually... then I can offer a variety of formats. Not to mention better sample edits ;) My wish list is quite long, so don't hold your breath or anything, tho.
It's fall now and that means Blues Hall is closed on Friday nights. And, unless Johnny May decides to play hooky and go fishin :o I'm off, as well. Looking forward to Anthony Gomes this coming Saturday! As well as Eddie "The Chief" Clearwater in Rum Boogie. As I pick up Tuesday nights instead, it means getting to work with our 'House Band', James Govan and The Boogie Blues Band :)
October 3: Ok, I slept :) First things first... In my quest to add a bit of color and pizazz to my 'oh so grey, BluesSite', I ran across this awesome, quick and easy JunkMachine! If I can do it, anybody can. RobTex is a true wizard. The JunkMachine takes about 2 secs to download to your desktop and use to your hearts content. Incredibly versatile for such a teensy-weensy program.
Arthur Williams and The Bluesmasters were back in Blues Hall, last month. Always a real bluestreat! They definitely pull folks thru the door once they hit the stage. No doubt, this is the kind of band folks come down to Beale Street to see and hear. Boo Boo Davis on vocals and drums & Bob Lohr on some hot keyboards have been with Arthur since they were mere bluesbabes. Needless to say, they got a bluesbond goin on! Arthur Williams and The Bluesmasters will be performing next weekend at The King Biscuit Festival. Bob said they'd be visiting us on Beale, while so nearby. Sorry I didn't get my scanner yet guys, but thanks to Steve and my uncontrollable tendency to right click, we got a great photo. ;)
October 3: Been working on this new look, not to mention BlueStock. I'm too fried right now to do this update... so I'll be back after I sleep a bit. Hope this site is working for y'all! Please let me know if you encounter any flaws, thanks.
